I used to be ashamed
Of my home I called a body Because it never seemed To match the precise measurement Society deemed acceptable I didn't have that super model slim fit Or that Coca Bottle shape That demanded attention So I would spend days, months even years 18 to be exact Thinking of what measurements Deemed fit for a woman Society idea of beauty became my fixation My degree or even my phd I spent days learning the art of contour But you could never really contour Your pain any less No amount of concealer can hide the insecurities Because no amount of appraisal Could mask my OCD I wanted to be beautiful And it seemed no matter how hard I tried I always seem to stumble Because the face in the mirror Never matched society's idea of what beauty is. There's only so much editing one can do This isn't photoshop is real life The social construct of beauty Is a black hole that creates a vacuum No man, Mac or Chanel can fill This left me empty and broken But God picked up my pieces And reminded me he hasn't given up on me My idea of beauty was redefined Beauty isn't about the clothes Or your make up expertise But rather to do with the expedites of the heart True happiness spurs out beauty It is waking up and feeling comfortable in your skin It is feeling beautiful without a man telling you so It is loving others unconditionally It is being true to yourself It is accepting yourself When everyone has deserted you It is finding the rainbow out of the storm It is family and being successful It is an inside flame that can not be tamed It is a gentle nature and a big heart It is joy after a Cold War It is fighting for the oppressed It is finding God in the midst of all hopelessness Beauty is Peter 1:3-4 Beauty is you Being comfortable in your own skin Is one of the most revolutionary art Known to man It is an art filled with the many colours of your personality It is the trials you have overcome It is your identity Refine your idea of beauty And don't let it refine you Your life is your painting Paint it with the beauty inside of you
