My body is my canvas
My canvas of pain, contradictions And of things unspoken Bottled up and thrown To the deepest end of the sea Where i bury all my secrets My body is my canvas My canvas of unexplored hope & dreams And hidden treasures Buried within me I'm ready to explore, With my pen I write my story Filling my canvas with all that is me Erasing the past Defining my present Creating my future

The smell of death is apparent
Lifeless bodies everywhere Nightmares turned into reality I prayed to be lost in dreams Never waking up I hoped for death A land where peace resides Rather than waking up To the harsh realities of this world The constant reminder of my imprisonment An innocent prisoner of political warfare Trapped in this battle of Diamonds I never consented to Caught in the middle of this conflict Enduring the loss of my family Masking the scars of my pain and shame I'm ASHAMED Ashamed I wasn't man enough to protect them Left powerless I yearn for freedom But what can freedom do for a broken spirit I ask you again What can freedom do for a broken spirit My zeal for living is gone I've lost everything But what was my crime? Poverty *This poem was inspired by the movie Blood Diamonds |
